Lakes and passes of the Dolomites
The tour · Dolomites
Row Lago di Braies before the day trippers, cross three passes on foot and sleep in family-run rifugios.
This is a hut-to-hut walk for people who are comfortable with six hours on their feet and a few hundred metres of climb before lunch. There is no climbing and no drop you cannot walk around. If you have done a long weekend in the hills with a rucksack, you are ready.
The days are honest: between four and fifteen kilometres, three passes, and one cable car down when the knees have earned it. One afternoon is free. Bags travel by road on four days. On the others you carry what you need for the night.
What makes it is the huts and the hour on the lake. Rifugios here are family houses with a kitchen, and Marco has known most of the families for twenty years. We row Lago di Braies at first light, when the water is flat and the car park is empty.
